Fiqh

The Sharīʿāh of Islām is divided into two parts: al-Iʿtiqādiyyāt (الْاِعْتِقَادِيَّات) and  al-ʿAmaliyyāt (الْعَمَلِيَّات) i.e. beliefs and actions.

Whilst the section on ʿAqīdah (Belief/Creed) deals with one of the parts of the Sharīʿah, this section deals with the other. Fiqh, in this sense, relates to the study of rulings related to practical matters of the Sharīʿah such as prayer, fasting, pilgrimage, zakāh etc.

I have prefaced this with three fundamental topics thus you will find the following in this section:

  • Uṣūl al-Fiqh which deals with the study of defining what things are considered to be sources of evidence, the method of deducing legal rulings and who can and who cannot engage in this activity.
  • Following this is a section on Qawāʿid al-Fiqh which deals with the general maxims governing areas of practical rulings.
  • The third section is on the topic of Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah which relates to the universal objectives which the Sharīʿah aims to achieve.
  • The fourth section deals with the result and outcome of exercising and implementing the tools of Uṣūl al-Fiqh, Qawāʿid al-Fiqh and Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah: the practical rulings of Islām or al-Aḥkām al-ʿAmaliyyah. These include, prayer, zakāh, fasting, pilgrimage, business transactions, marriage etc. It deals with all the practical aspects of a person’s life, many of which are obligatory for us all to know and practise on an individual basis.

I ask Allāh the All-Knowing and All-Wise to grant us fiqh of His Dīn, and to assist us in implementing the practical aspects of the Dīn in a manner that pleases Him; at both an individual and communal level. I ask Allāh to make what I have written on this field, a means of helping my brothers and sisters achieve this lofty goal.
