880 Charity from Unlawful Wealth is Not Rewarded
Abū Hurayrah, may Allāh be pleased with him, said that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said, “Whoever amasses unlawful wealth and then gives charity with it, he will not receive any reward for that, and the burden of his sin will be upon him.” Reported by Ibn Khuzaymah and Ibn Ḥibbān in their Ṣaḥīḥ collections, as well as al-Ḥākim.
Graded ḥasan.
888 Secret Charity Extinguishes the Lord’s Anger
Muʿāwiyah b. Ḥaydah, may Allāh be pleased with him, reported from the Prophet ﷺ that he said, “Indeed secret charity extinguishes the anger of the Lord – Blessed and Exalted be He.” Reported by al-Ṭabarānī in al-Kabīr.
Graded ḥasan li ghayrih.
893 Charity to Close Relative Who Harbours Enmity
Ḥakīm b. Ḥizām, may Allāh be pleased with him, reported that a man asked the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ about charity and which form is the best. He said, “To the close relative who secretly harbours enmity.” Reported by Aḥmad and al-Ṭabarānī.
Graded ṣaḥīḥ li ghayrih.
894 Charity to Close Relative Who Harbours Enmity
Umm Kulthūm bt. ʿUqbah, may Allāh be pleased with her, reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, “The best charity is charity to a close relative who secretly harbours enmity.” Reported by al-Ṭabarānī in al-Kabīr.
Graded ṣaḥīḥ.
897 Not Withholding Surplus Wealth from Needy Cousins
ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAmr, may Allāh be pleased with them both, said that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said, “Any man whose uncle’s son comes to him asking from his surplus wealth, and he withholds it from him, Allāh will withhold His grace from him on the Day of Resurrection.” Reported al-Ṭabarānī in al-Ṣaghīr and al-Awsaṭ.

899 Every Loan is Charity
ʿAbd Allāh b. Masʿūd, may Allāh be pleased with him, said that the Prophet ﷺ said, “Every loan is charity.” Reported al-Ṭabarānī in al-Ṣaghīr and al-Awsaṭ.
